8/7/10 

  • Andy Bryant's Denbukan Dōjō in Indianapolis hosted a seminar this weekend on Ono Ha Ittō Ryū Sōkaku Den Kenjutsu.
  • Instructors were Rodney Uhler Sensei and Mitsuko Hashimoto-Uhler Sensei.
  • The main focus was on the Gogyō No Kata, which were created by Takano Sasaburō Sensei.
  • We would like to thank Bryant Sensei and his students for providing us with this rare opportunity.

  • Azamikan Dōjō's martial arts certificate and seal service has officially been moved to its own web address.
  • The new website for these services can be found at www.azamipress.com.

  • Azamikan Dōjō's martial arts certificate and seal service will soon be moving to its own web address.
  • This service is currently in transition, and the new website will go live on Friday, 5/28/10.
  • Certificates and seals can still currently be ordered; however, please contact us by e-mail or telephone in order to request this service if you wish to place an order before 5/28/10.
  • All information and inquiries with regard to the dōjō will continue to be handled through the current website.  Only the certificate and seal service will be moving to the new website.

  • The Azamikan 2010 Spring Budōsai was very beneficial to all involved.
  • We are grateful for Hobbs Sensei's willingness to come and spend a couple of days with us to help us improve in several areas of our training.
  • Much was covered in the arts of jūjutsu, kobujutsu, and karatedō.
  • Chris Corbit, of the Denbukan Dōjō, was promoted to shodan in Dentōkan Jūjutsu.

  • This is now a closed event that is restricted to Dentōkan and ZNBR students only.
  • Dates remain the same; however, specific sessions have been slightly altered.

  • Azamikan 2010 Spring Budōsai announced.
  • This event will be hosted by Azamikan Traditional Japanese Martial Arts Academy in Frankfort, IN, and will be held April 30–May 1, 2010.
  • Special guest instructors are Dentōkan President Col. Roy J. Hobbs Sensei and Andrew Bryant Sensei of the Denbukan Dōjō in Indianapolis, IN.

  • Testing lasted about two hours and, upon completion, two Azamikan students were promoted.

  • The Zen Nippon Budō Renmei's fall budōsai was a great experience for all involved.
  • A big thank-you to Andrew Bryant Sensei and his Denbukan Dōjō for hosting this event.
  • This was a weekend of quality traditional Japanese martial arts instruction by some very knowledgeable teachers.

  • There has been a slight adjustment to the class schedule (just a 5- to 10-minute shift) in order to make class times line up a little better.
  • The new schedule goes into effect starting on Monday, 10/26/09.

  • Fall budōsai for the Zen Nippon Budō Renmei announced.
  • This event will be hosted by Andrew Bryant Sensei's Denbukan Dōjō (formerly Rishinkan Dōjō) in Indianapolis, IN, and will be held November 7–8, 2009.
  • The courses presented will be instructed by several top teachers of traditional Japanese martial arts in Indiana.

  • Traditional Japanese martial arts introductory course at the YMCA announced.
  • This course will focus on introducing its participants to Shōrin Ryū Karatedō and Dentōkan Jūjutsu.
  • The course will consist of 4 2-hour sessions.
  • Sessions will be held at the Clinton County YMCA from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. every Tuesday in the month of November, starting on 11/3/09.
  • Cost is $25.00 for YMCA members and $50.00 for non-members.

  • Kays Sensei attended a combined event that consisted of an instructor's training course in Dentōkan Jūjutsu and a Kōkōdō Jūjutsu seminar hosted at Robin Ramírez Sensei's and Brandon Ream Sensei's Bakersfield Budō in Bakersfield, CA.
  • Friday's course was instructed by Roy Hobbs Hanshi and concentrated on kaiden techniques for instructors.
  • Saturday's seminar was instructed by Irie Yasuhiro Sensei and focused on various applications of the standard techniques of the jūjutsu syllabus.
  • Several promotions were awarded at this event:
    • Dr. Mike Nemeth: rokudan & shihan in Dentōkan Jūjutsu
    • Erik Johnstone: rokudan & shihan in Dentōkan Jūjutsu
    • Andy Bryant: rokudan & shihan in Dentōkan Jūjutsu (awarded in his absence: kaiden gi having been taught on two separate occasions with a high degree of proficiency demonstrated prior to the seminar)
    • Robin Ramírez: godan & shihan in Dentōkan Jūjutsu
    • Bill Henderson: godan & shihan in Dentōkan Jūjutsu
    • Brandon Ream: yondan in Dentōkan Jūjutsu and nidan in Dentōkan Gōjū Ryū Karatedō

  • Kays Sensei made a trip to see Hobbs Sensei at the Dentōkan Honbu in O'Fallon, IL, for testing.
  • Testing lasted just under three hours and, upon completion, Kays Sensei was honored to receive certification at the rank of yondan in Shōrin Ryū Karatedō.

5/1/09–5/3/09
  • Kays Sensei attended an intensive instructor's training course in Dentōkan Jūjutsu hosted at Erik Johnstone Sensei's Shindōkan Dōjō in Pawcatuck, CT.
  • The course was instructed by Roy Hobbs Hanshi and concentrated on shihan techniques for instructors.

  • Azamikan Dōjō welcomes Jesús Vargas, who attended his first class tonight.

3/30/09
  • Starting this week, Wednesday classes have been moved back to Thursdays.
  • All class times remain the same.
  • Azamikan Dōjō welcomes two new students this evening: Susy Kays and Lupita Cruz.

  • Azamikan Dōjō hosted a Brazilian Jūjutsu seminar on December 19.
  • The seminar ran for two hours (from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.).
  • The seminar was conducted by Dan Lawlis of Indianapolis, IN.
  • This was a great opportunity to learn to fight on the ground or improve our ground fighting strategy.
  • Thanks to all those who attended and especially to Lawlis Sensei for the time that he gave us in order to share these teachings with us.

  • Kays Sensei and Andrew Bryant Sensei of the Rishinkan Dōjō in Indianapolis, IN, visited Hobbs Sensei at the Dentōkan Honbu in O'Fallon, IL.
  • The primary focus of the visit was Jūjutsu review, but we were also able to work on 10 of the Shōrin Ryū kata.
  • We also had the pleasure meeting Dr. Mike Nemeth Sensei of Yorktown, VA.
  • Nemeth Sensei holds a nanadan in Shōrin Ryū Karatedō as well as a sandan in Dentōkan Jūjutsu.

  • Starting this week, there will be a change in our class schedule.
  • Karate classes will be held Mondays, 6:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m. and Wednesdays, 5:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.
  • Jūjutsu classes will be held Mondays, 7:45 p.m.–8:45 p.m.
  • Our Thursday class has been discontinued, having been replaced by the new Wednesday class.

  • Kays Sensei took a trip to O'Fallon, IL, along with Andrew Bryant Sensei of the Rishinkan Dōjō of Indianapolis in order to train with Hobbs Sensei, founder of Sekai Dentōkan Bugei Renmei.
  • Training lasted for over 5 hours and consisted of the study of Karatedō, Jūjutsu, and Iaijutsu.

6/22/08
  • Monday's class, 6/23, was held tonight (Sunday) due to a construction project planned for tomorrow.
  • Azamikan Dōjō welcomes Giobany Suárez, who attended his first class tonight.

  • The members of Azamikan attended a Ryū Te seminar conducted by Blake Burgert Sensei and hosted by Frank Harness Shihan of Shōrei Gōjū Ryū.

  • Our first student was Kevin González.
  • Much was covered in the way of etiquette and basic techniques.
